The name suicide gun was dubbet after a series of accidents where operatives accidentally fired the pistol while reloading, resulting in blown off heads in the more extreme cases. The loading and security mechanism was improved quickly. Unless the weapon safety lock isn't engaged the weapon won't fire if there is a grenade in any barrel which hasn't been loaded properly. And in addition the grenade won't lock into place unless the safety is on.
The GLCS comes with seceral types of rounds, however HE, HEAP and flechettes are the norm. Other rounds has been fazed out as other systems are more effective.
Even for its non-existent recoil, the mechanism isn't fast enough to provide faster fire than one shot every 5 seconds or so. In the dark, the muzzle flash and the burning propelant will be a problem during night operations as the operator risks boing blinded after firing the weapon. Nightvision equipment may manage to reduce the flash, but it will in most cases make the situation worse as they take some time to get the vision parameters back inot normal levels effectively blinding the operator.
While this is a problem, it is regarded as a minor one when faced with amock robots. However, the weapon is used sparingly as other alternatives are sought.
